Jitsu is a self-defence martial art and works by using whatever the opponent attacks you with against them.
The word Jitsu comes from the Japanese Jiu Jitsu, an ancient martial art and translates to Gentle Art, or Flexible Technique.
Our style has chosen to call itself Jitsu in order to reflect the modernisation of the ancient art of Jiu Jitsu.
We use the techniques of Jiu Jitsu to deal with modern day attacks and instead of directly fighting with an attacker in a “strength verses strength” situation, Jitsu aims to redirect the attack, allowing the defender to deal with the situation.
From the first lesson you will learn how to deal with a variety of attacks, including grabs, strikes and weapons. The primary emphasis on all this training is safety, so you will not be asked to do anything beyond your level of competence.
There are some obvious benefits of learning a Martial Art such as Jitsu, for example for keeping fit and learning to look after yourself. Equally there are some less obvious benefits such as improved flexibilty, strength and awareness.
We are never far from violence. Jitsu provides a safe and controlled forum to explore violence, without hurting each other. When you leave the Dojo, you leave the violence behind you. Practitioners of the Martial Arts don't start fights

We have a very lively Junior Club made up of boys and girls from the age of four onwards. They are taught self defence techniques which are useful and affective against any assailant or bully.
Junior Jitsu is taken just as seriously as adult Jitsu; the main difference being that certain techniques are reserved for the seniors and sharp weapons are not used.
This is a class aimed at 4 to 7 years old and is designed to teach the basic building blocks for self defence and training. Games and scenario training is used to improve confidence and discipline whilst they learn respect for themselves and their training partners in a safe environment.
Little Samurai’s training is progressive and success is assessed and recognised in the award of certificates. On completion of the initial programme training is aimed towards earning their first belt whilst still enjoying the fun of games and activities.
This is a class aimed at 8 to 17 years old and is designed to teach self defence and train in the martial art of Jitsu. Training improves fitness and co-ordination and uses scenario based training and games to promote confidence, discipline and respect.
Junior Samurai training is continually assessed for progression and once the appropriate level is reached the junior will be entered in to grading to obtain a coloured belt.
A junior student is recognised by wearing a coloured belt with a central white stripe through their belt where as adults have a solid colour.
Our club has a great family atmosphere with Parents and Guardians helping with the running of the club. The club is full of dedicated hard working individuals who go the extra mile to support the training and development of the children.
Jitsu is taught as a defensive martial art. It teaches the value of only using the skills learnt to save and protect one's life and those of others, and not to start fights or to use it inappropriately in school play grounds.
A child will learn how to defend themselves from different potential attacks such as punches, grabs and strangles as well as defence against rubber weapons.
